Uniqueness
Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.

The main reason why the Early Church was persecuted is that they put an emphasis on uniqueness. Claiming ‘only by Jesus’ and ‘only by faith,’ they emphasized that you could receive salvation only by the faith of believing in the name of Christ Jesus.
1. During the time of the Early Church
During the time of the Early Church, the Jewish people didn’t have the notion of ‘only by the Gospel.’ They possessed many other things that seemed good, such as traditions, institutions, and the Torah, Talmud and Shema. However, they had absolutely no understanding of the Gospel. In addition, they persecuted the Early Church because they could not comprehend fundamental truths like Satan, disasters and hell. The Early Church put astrologers, fortunetellers and idol makers out of business. In addition, Rome compelled their citizens to worship the emperor. This is why the Christians were persecuted; they confessed that Jesus Christ, not the emperor, was their Lord and Master. The Jewish people, religious leaders and Rome gathered together their strength and persecuted the Early Church.
2. Church history
When the uniqueness of the Gospel grows faint, people focus on other things. The man who claimed the Gospel was unique during the Middle Ages was Luther. He proclaimed that “The righteous will live by faith” (Romans 1:17). During that time, the Catholic Church condemned him for heresy and sentenced him to death. However, Luther was spared with the help from those who opposed the Pope and began the Religious Reformation. And during the 18th and 19th centuries, people who had the Gospel rose up and emphasized the uniqueness of the Gospel. They, too, received persecution from ecclesiastical authority.
3. Modern society
Nowadays, many theological seminaries teach religious pluralism. They deny the fact that you receive salvation only by believing in Jesus. At first they claimed that salvation could be found outside the church. Later on, they claimed that salvation could be found outside Christ. That is why many religions have been advocating the idea of unification these days. If that happens, serious spiritual problems will follow. The one who came as the Christ is Jesus alone. Religion cannot solve spiritual problems, overcome Satan, change your fate and destiny, or take away original sin. These things can only be resolved through the one and only way, Christ. Only the Gospel can give life; we must change the culture by the power of the Holy Spirit alone.
