Only the Gospel
1 Corinthians 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

The theme of the Early Church was ‘only the Gospel’. Those who have come to get a taste of the Gospel know that ‘only the Gospel’ is the power of God. However, those who have not gotten a taste of the Gospel cannot realize the importance of the Gospel. If we stop lying to ourselves, understanding the Gospel becomes easy. As we look back upon ourselves, we must absolutely realize one thing - though we do our best, there are so many things in us that we are ashamed of. In other words, we must realize that we are sinners.
1. The correct start
John Calvin stated that all humankind is totally depraved. Once we come to realize what life is, we also come to terms with the fact that it is utterly hopeless for humankind. For this reason, God sent the Christ. If we begin our lives with something other than the Gospel, that itself becomes the start of failure. We have no choice but to face destruction. However, God absolutely saved us from that. If we begin our lives without recognizing this, our lives will realistically fall into failure. Even when we start a church, it must begin with the Gospel. If we don’t, there is no greater problem than this.
2. The one who fears ‘only the Gospel’ and ‘only Jesus’
Satan is fearful of the phrases ‘only Gospel’ and ‘only Jesus.’ The Pharisees persecuted the Early Church because they subscribed to the belief that they could attain salvation by keeping the law. The Medieval Church believed that they could be saved through good works, and persecuted the religious reformers for this reason. They even got to the point where they were stating that if believers bought indulgences, they could receive forgiveness of their sins. What about this day and age? There are so many things that are not the Gospel that have infiltrated into the churches of Korea and the world.
3. The Bible emphasizes the Gospel
The Gospel is not a religion. The Gospel is the fundamental solution for humankind. All people have a fundamental problem. The fundamental problem consists of people falling into sin, being separated from God, and living as slaves to Satan. We can neither overcome Satan nor can we change our destiny with our own strength. We cannot solve our fundamental problem. That is the reason why God chose to use His method in bringing salvation to man. That method is Christ. God promised to send us the Christ. This is the Gospel. The entire Bible emphasizes this Gospel. We must restore this Gospel (Genesis 3:15, Exodus 3:18, Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 16:16).
