Romans 12 is the middle chapter of the book of Romans. Romans 1 to 11 talks about faith and answers the question, ‘How should we believe?’ Romans 12 to 16 talks about life and addresses the issue of how we must live our lives. One theologian phrased the first part (1~11) ‘From faith to faith,’ and the second part (12~16) ‘From faith to life.’ That is why the first word of chapter 12 ‘therefore’ is very important. What kind of content precedes and follows this conjunction?
1. Eternal evidence (Rom 1~11)
The preceding part of ‘therefore’ talks about the eternal evidence that comes from God. If your business, studies and church are within God’s eternal evidence, then everything will prosper. What is the content of this evidence? All men listened to Satan and committed the sin of leaving God - original sin. No one can be successful under original sin, and no one can escape from it. This is when God sent Christ to solve this problem and promised His salvation. He gave the Spirit of sonship to those who are saved. No one can take this blessing away. If you truly understand this eternal evidence, great works will take place.
2. Eternal witnesses
Romans 12 to 16 talks about eternal witnesses. These people were hidden from long ages past and were finally revealed; they were witnesses of the Gospel. They were the people in Romans 16 who realistically enjoyed the answers in the Gospel as protectors, hosts, co-workers, relatives, loved ones, hard workers, and acknowledged ones. They were truly eternal witnesses. Those who devote their lives for this purpose and the churches that match their direction with this cause will definitely receive answers.
3. Eternal victory
What is eternal victory? Not to leave the church, but to stay away from divisions is true victory (Romans 16:17). Wherever we go, we are bound to face divisions and trials. We must be cautious of this. Satan attacks even now, but we will be victorious if we are not deceived by this. To be wise for what is good and to be innocent of what is evil is how we can be victorious forever. Those who know that the God of peace will soon crush Satan and pray will have eternal victory.
