Laws regarding slaves

A lot of Christians say they believe in Jesus, but lose hold of what is important because the world is so enticing. What we must remember is that Satan uses two kinds of strategies. Either he tries to deceive children of God and lead them to destruction (John 8:44), or he gives them things that seem good so that they eventually fail (2 Corinthians 11:14). If we don’t know these spiritual realities, we won’t know how to or why we must live our Christian lives, or why our Christian lives are not working no matter how hard we try. We must learn three lessons from the Israelites, who came to know God in the wilderness after they escaped their slavery in Egypt.
1. To uproot the incorrect things they had planted in the past
What is it that they incorrectly planted? It was the past they had planted, not knowing one important thing. God was trying to explain one thing through Joseph’s life of slavery and prison, as well as his ascension to the governorship. He also raised up the leader Moses after 400 years of enslavement by the Egyptians because of this one reason. This one thing is the ‘Gospel’. God’s people and the church will suffer if they don’t understand the reason why they must evangelize and do missions within the Gospel. Success and failure in life is contingent upon this as well.
2. The problems of the present can become a different kind of future
What is the reason why God gave the Israelites, who were in the wilderness, laws regarding slavery? The Word ‘Hebrew’ stems from ‘habiru’, which means ‘one who traverses’ or more accurately, one who has lost his path, his home, and his nation. What God was saying was that the Israelites, who had come out of slavery and Egypt, could be sold into slavery again. Just like the Israelites lost hold of the covenant and became slaves in Egypt, our inability to realize the spiritual realities or hold onto the covenant today can become our future too. On the other hand, our future will be blessed if we hold onto the Gospel and enjoy the covenant today.
3. We need the eyes to see the Bible through the Gospel
We need insight when we read the Bible and understand it. Many philosophers and theologians were unable to find the knowledge of truth through reading or researching the Bible because they didn’t see the Bible through the Gospel of Christ. Christ, who is the mystery of God (Colossians 2:2), is the key to understanding the Bible correctly. The issue is not saying a lot or listening to a lot of sermons, but rather understanding the Gospel. We aren’t workers who must do a lot of work; we are children of God. It is in this fact that we must find God’s grace and blessings.
