I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from the land of slavery
Exodus 20:1~2 And God spoke all these words: "I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery."
♬ Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #405 What a Fellowship, What a Joy Divine (#458 in previous version)
Today, God reveals Himself, saying, “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.” The setting of this Scripture reading is the wilderness, where the Israelites are looking ahead towards Canaan before the Ten Commandments have been given to them. There were people who dropped out of the ranks due to disbelief. There were already 7 tribes and 31 kings in the land of Canaan, and the Israelites were in need of a resolution. Life is the same way. Overcoming the problems and hardships in our paths without the mystery of prayer and a resolution is difficult. We can discover the mystery of answers to prayer if we accurately know who the Lord God is and believe we are His children.
1. Draw a picture
We must grab hold of the evidences that God has been with us up to this very moment. God showed Himself to the Israelites, who left Egypt, and performed miracles and gave evidences to those who believed. He saved them and delivered them from fate, Satan and curses. The works in the Bible are filled to the brim with these kinds of evidences from God. The Gospel should not become repetitious but a reality in our lives, and we must draw a picture that will be fulfilled in our fields. Vision is pulling forward the future into today and actualizing it. The start of our vision is faith. Grabbing hold of the evidences of the Word and the vision of drawing the picture of our future is our blessing.
2. The Gospel must be the most basic of our beliefs
We will make mistakes and lose hold of important things if we let go of the Gospel, even if we are giving worship and receiving the Word. The Gospel is our foundation and life itself, and everything is within the Gospel. That’s why it’s important to see everything through the Gospel. What we know is important; what’s more important is whether or not we have a Gospel-centered nature by which we see everything through the Gospel and make resolutions through the Gospel. Our lives and our ministries will be life to us if they are established upon the Gospel.
3. We must do everything through prayer
We can find everything through prayer. We can even make the visions we’ve been given realistic and factual through prayer. We can experience Gospel-centered prayer when we know the Almighty God, the work of the Holy Spirit and the spiritual reality of answers to prayer. The blessing of passing through the wilderness and conquering Canaan can be ours. All we have to do is the scheduled prayer in which we find ourselves, discover the mystery of continuous prayer, which changes the field, and enjoy Immanuel in our everyday lives.
